A few days ago we reported on the apparent blocking of twitter in Turkey and how Prime Minister Erdogan has recently become the target of anonymous online “trolling” that seems to suggest his direct involvement in corruption.
Today it appears that YouTube has now suffered the same fate. This new web block was put in place on Thursday as Prime Minister Erdogan denounced the “villainous” leaked audio recordings from a security meeting of top officials. What was the topic of discussion? Possible war with Syria. In short, the audio recording leaked on YouTube appear to reveal that top Turkey officials were plotting to fake an attack against their own country as an excuse to wage war on Syria.
Erdogan called the recordings false and an invasion of his privacy, and has said that the ban on Twitter and YouTube could soon be extended to Facebook.
It didn’t take long for Turkish authorities to order the immediate blocking of YouTube:
